For goodness sake, someone hide the credit card..!

I did that thing the other night, the one where you start browsing ebay after a couple of glasses of wine and as tends to happen (to me, anyhow) I somehow found myself buying fabric…again.  So, I have had quite a few deliveries, including

nice wrapping huh! especially for an ebay buy where I don’t expect such pretty parcels

inside, one of my favourite Liberty patterns, ‘Wiltshire‘, unusually for me in twill, I would normally buy Tana Lawn, which I use for the Wool Bunny Dresses.

I also bought some Orla Kiely fabric which I couldn’t resist, enough to make a couple of cushion covers for the Living Room.  This lead me to hunt out

some Sale Orla K bedding which I have bought for the fabric, I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, I plan to make a summer dress and a couple of tops.  As most regular readers know, I am a big Orla Kiely fan, I make a point every season of saving up my pennies to buy something in her Sale, last season it was this

a medium travel bag, at the moment is has my cushion pads stored in it but when I am lucky enough to travel it’s the perfect size for a full holiday as I tend to pack quite light…sigh…holiday…now that would be nice.

This year, my bargain Orla K was this tweed dress, I had already marked it out and waited patiently for the SALE email to come through then dashed online to buy it, you have to be quick as things don’t stay long.  Her clothes are expensive but over the last 6 years I have collected quite a few and one of my favourite things is a blue jersey pinafore dress that I wear with jeans.  During the sales I also bought the shoes shown which are by Chie Mihara, I love her shoes, I have wide feet and they fit me well and I like the retro feel a lot of the designs have (loads of UK on-line stores sell Chie Mihara, be warned, you may fall in love and they aren’t cheap!).

My clothes sense is as eclectic as my home, I have a fondness for period style (as above) and own quite a lot of vintage items but also like quite funky modern clothing.  Saying that I mostly do ‘Bag Lady’ at the moment, I am rather excited about having some more time now that the boys are in school/pre-school, to get back into shape and take some pride in my appearance, who knows I might even start wearing make-up 🙂

  1. Isn’t it fun when the parcels start arriving!! Just as long as the credit card bill doesn’t come in the same post!!
    Lovely stuff. 🙂

  2. Snap! Ebay shopping can be fatal, you think your just poping on to take a look the next thing you have placed 3 orders and re bidding on 4 things, lol!!!!
Love your fabrics and the Orla dress is beautiful.

    1. Thanks Sophie, I am dreadful on Ebay as it’s not like real money using Paypal, I need to be quite firm or I make mistake fabric buys in haste 😉

  3. Ooh easy tiger – that make-up malarky requires much time and practise! In days BC (Before Children) I would never be seen without make-up. Now people ask what I’ve had done if I wear it!
They are gorgeous fabrics, and I could not take my eyes off those shoes…!!!

    1. Ha! I tell you, I wore a skirt and tights a while ago for the school run (it was cold) and everyone kept asking me where I’d been!…er, a home as usual – doh!

    1. I know, I’d better get the dress right or I’l be kicking myself as the bedding was still quite expensive even in the sale. Lots of planning and pattern cutting is the key!

  4. Oh dear. I think ‘ll have to stop visiting your blog its far too dangerous! Too many pretty things and so much insipiration.

I would love to be able to wear something like your new dress and shoes but am not sure I could carry them off. I think I’ve had too many years of having to wear trousers and boots to work – anything else is asking for trouble when traipsing thro’ forests!

I think I’d better leave the computer now or I’ll start surfing ebay etc and get twitchy with my purse.

    1. I have to be honest, since we moved out of London and I had children I rarely ‘dress up’ but I miss it and have quite a hefty collection of heels, just no-where to go (hear those violins?) which is why I fell in love with the Chie Mihara shoes as they have a low chunky heel so there’s no excuse…not sure you’ll easily get me out of jeans and boots either. 5. lovely lovely lovely finds. your suitcase is wonderful!!i have a similar (ish) fabric to the well wrapped ebay find you had…im going to make some cullottes out of it for the summer. although im a bit scared as im not very well versed in the making of clothes (have me make a plushy anyday!) so it could all go wrong!!xx

    1. ohhh, I love cullottes, I have too much of a belly after children so they hang really badly on me, but hey. now I have time to get fitter there are no excuses.

  6. Here´s yet an another bag lady-inspired dresser 😉 It´s been a long, cold, snowy winter with no light what so ever – but it´s getting better! Spring!

I love your purchases (especially the shoes!) and am already waiting to see what you´ll create from those beautiful fabrics!

    Yours,
    Mia

    1. I am rather in love with the shoes…they were less than half price and only left in my size so I ‘had to have them’! I am quite excited about making some clothes as I don’t really use my costume designer background – I see all the mistakes and it take the fun out of the process but this is such nice fabric i am looking forward to it!

    1. Ha ha, this made me laugh, you are sooo right, I am cursed by my wide feet, they don’t like being squeezed into pretty petit shoes but I do like a nice pair of heels so it’s heaven to find ones that fit. Hurrah for Chie Mihara!

    1. Hellloooooo! There are still some CM bargains out there but the new collection is out, I may have a bit of an addiction to browsing her shoes on UK on-line shops and compiling a wish list in my head, but I wait patiently for the sales as the prices drop so much. I need more occasions to wear heels!!
