Giveaway – Bunnies…

I’m having a stock clear out and have decided to giveaway the remaining wool boy bunnies (the last girls are in the SALE section).  I’m also adding some owls and lavender bunnies (which have very little smell as they were stuffed some time ago for sample photos) to the bundles, so I have 4 packages, each containing:

All you have to do is leave a comment on this post before midnight on Saturday 9th July, just say ‘hi’ and you’ll be entered into the draw.  Oh and as always I wont reply to comments (to the keep the numbers correct) and do please make sure I can contact you, should you have your name picked out of the hat.

On a completely separate note, many thanks for the positive response to the new brooches, I’m thrilled they were so well received and especially that so many people who read this blog chose to buy one, I am planning more designs and happily spending my days playing with felt at the moment.

Flower Brooches…

In all honesty I fell like I’ve been making these FOREVER.  There was a lot more sewing involved than I’d expected and as mentioned in my last post I’m not sure it shows in the naive simple style of the design but there you go, I like them, I am especially pleased with the sunny yellow buttercup brooches.

I was heavily influenced by the Racey Helps books I recently chatted about, especially Kingcup Cottage which is one of my favourites,

how nice is this illustration?

It’s quite a sad story actually (but with a happy ending) in that no-one wants to come to Francesca’s party (a frog) as her house is too soggy and she puts dried flies into her scones, so that all ignore her party invites.  Bit rude really, in fact the first time I read this to F he got a bit upset for her, it all ends happily though and they all feel bad and come to her second party and she realises not everyone likes soggy houses so she hosts it in the wood.  Good old-fashioned story telling, I like it.

So I decided I wanted to make a nice sunny yellow flower version of my felt blossoms and went with Buttercups (the leaves had more interest to me that those on Kingcups).

Below are the progress photos I took along the way:

The eagle eyed will spot I changed the beads from misty ones to opaque ones, the originals just weren’t right but I do now have a mountain of yellow seed beads to use up at some point.

The brooches have been mounted on cards

as well as being available as plain brooches and of course, I made some of the original Dog Rose version similar to the one I made for my Mother

I have other ‘cards’ in mind, namely little felt birds ones which I was supposed to do the Christmas before last but I’m still playing around with the best way to attach them to the cards, for the meantime the new ones are available here.

I have quite a few things I’d like to make for the house so I’m planning a little shop making break although I still have loads to get done before the Summer holidays arrive and there’s also a giveaway coming up, when I find the time to take the relevant photos 🙂

New Birds…

I’m feeling a little melancholy today, not necessarily in a bad way, I’m listening to ‘girly warbling folk music’ as a friend of mine would say (she once made me a mix tape with this as the title, back in the olden days when people made mix tapes) and it’s raining outside which I LOVE.  I’m a big fan of rain, I kind of assume that’s because of being brought up on a farm in the Dales in the middle of no-where on a windswept hill…..maybe.

The music and weather fit the pace of my sewing perfectly as I’ve spent the last couple of days hand stitching flower brooches, which is generally taking a lot longer than I’d anticipated although it is nice to work at this slower speed.  I’m slightly worried about the pricing of these now though as there is a lot more work involved than appears, which is never good.

I’ve also been stitching eyes onto some new Lavender Birds, in orange

and pink

they can be found here and on Folksy.

On a completely separate note, F lost a tooth the other night, I wasn’t quite ready (I’d planned a Monster tooth pouch) so had to write a hasty note from the Tooth Monster (the Fairy was busy, apparently, or so the note said ;))

I *borrowed* (ahem) an image from Jamie Hewlett, because he rocks and so I could add a PS the note which reads:

‘I don’t look like the picture, that’s my cousin doing his shopping, I am green’

I plan to put a different photo on each time that isn’t the Tooth Monster so F can make up his own image in his head.  I may have created rather a chore for myself as he already has 2 more wobbly teeth but I couldn’t resist starting a Tooth Monster dialogue.  F doesn’t do Fairies.

I also wanted to show you this great Dotty Baby Bib I bought a while ago from Jenny from her shop Sew Vintage Obsessed, oh how I wish these options were there when my two were small, how fantastic to have such a stylish (and very well made) bib, it almost makes me want to have another baby (not really).  In case you don’t know her, Jenny also writes a lovely blog here.

Ok, the sun has come out and it’s time I stopped swishing around in my studio listening to lovely harmonies and wishing I still had long hair and not very short, very red hair instead 🙂

Nearly forgot, thanks for all your comments re housework, I’m glad it’s not just me and I’m a bit behind in my blog reading so apologies if I haven’t commented for a while.

I’m feeling a little grrrr today.  We returned at the weekend from a lovely visit to Germany to stay with M’s family.  It was perfect.  Relaxing for us and great for the boys to spend some time meeting everyone and learning about Germany, we have been before but I figure this will be the first time they really remember the details and they loved every minute.

We packed very light and so had little space for bringing back goodies but we did squeeze in some Hanuta (I am a firm fan of dark, plain high coco content chocolate, I don’t really eat any other kind but there’s something about wafer and hazelnut that I can’t resist), some of my Mum’s favourite liquor nut chocs and some mustard because it’s very cheap and I was desperate for the glasses for use afterwards (they have Die Maus on, a character the boys know from DVD’s they have in German).

Anyhow back to my grumpiness (which is already subsiding as I write this post).  I just felt very cross about my daily chores this morning, the depressing tasks of stacking the dishwasher, putting on another load of laundry, having to step over the millions of toys already strewn across the house even though it was left nice and tidy when we went away.  I am not a very good housewife.  I need a cleaner.  It’s just boring stuff to do when I really want to pop upstairs and sit in a tidy (which it isn’t) studio and create things.

However, I am cheering considerably as I have remembered that C is on his ‘full day’ at pre-school so I don’t need to rush in order to go pick him up and I have decided I’m not going to wrap F’s B-Day presents (another ‘has to be done today’ job on my list), they are all in their original Amazon boxes (both our families live so far away presents are often ordered from Amazon wish lists) and he really couldn’t care less, as long as he gets to ‘open’ them.  He will have plenty of nicely wrapped things at his party on the weekend and ditto for the cake, I just bought a pirate cake for his party and I am cooking a simple chocolate chip loaf cake for his actual birthday, he’ll be more than happy with that.

Hurray, I am now no longer grumpy at all, I just took the cake out of the oven and it’s perfect and I have just taken the photos for this post (bet you wondered what they were but I figured if I just moaned and there was nothing to look at you’d abandon reading this blog).  It’s an order I am packing up for the Craft Shop at the Saint Patrick’s Trian Visitor Complex in Armagh and as regular readers know, I do love neat piles of finished work, this always makes me smile.

For the rest of today I plan to tidy and hopefully clear my head for some serious work, I really need to finish the new brooches and there are a few bits to photograph and list such as new Lavender Birds.  I’m also clearing through my stock and getting ready for a giveaway, so lots to come 🙂
